Song of the Day: O Saya from Slumdog Millionaire.

Listen

- A.R.Rahman won a Golden Globe tonight!

- Forget whether the album was his best or whether the movie deserved it or whether the film portrayed India properly or not and all that. Those brickbats and criticisms can wait. The achievement of this man, who started his journey with Roja 16 years ago, is just astonishing.

I thought he was done with his "international' round, with the failures of the recent Shekhar Kapoor films and Bombay Dreams' run coming to an end. Other ventures like Warriors of Heaven and Earth didn't get any notice.

Out of nowhere comes this film, gets the attention of all critics, and peaks at the right time to win four awards tonight. Rahman looked awkward on stage, but he was humility personified. There was no pumping fists, no over the top celebrations (see Anil Kapoor), but a simple thanks to God and the folks involved.

A couple of years back, it looked like Rahman's era of dominance was coming to an end. But Jodhaa Akbar, Jaane Tu.. , Yuvraaj, Ghajini are all hits and Slumdog Millionaire has rocketed him to a different level. Hope he cashes in on this and delivers for films that are not necessarily based on India.

- Among the soundtracks in this film, I liked "O Saya" (vocals by M.I.A) and the instrumental "Mausam and Escape". Looks like this was composed by ARR on prozac!
