Malaysian tamil music has hardly produced talents that have impressed the South Indian tamil film industry. However recently there has been some very good input from Malaysian tamils.
1. Shaila Nair's song mummy chellama was used in the film Jor. Shaila Nair is a very popular artist who has recently been in the news for all wrong reasons. Please do not do a google search in the office for Shaila Nair.
2. Nakshatra B with their tastefully done remix of madai thirandhu which integrated an all time classic with a new theme (kudos to pronouncing tamil clearly and well) set in a hip-hop mood have proved very popular.
3. Dilip Varman - the singer featured today is a rising talent. He has done a few albums (kadhal vendum and iru kaNgaL ) and is fast becoming popular in Malaysia. His voice is probably the best I have heard till now among the malaysian talents and he definitely derives from the Unnikrishnan style of singing. SOTD is a good example of this rising talent. The orchestration of the song is simplistic and just helps the singer to showcase himself.
