Song: mayakkam enadhu thAyagam
Film: Kungumam
Singer: TMS
MD: K.V.Mahadevan
Lyricist: Kannadhasan
With mama's predilection for tuning prewritten lyrics, Kannadhasan came up aces on this one. The four-line pallavi is cut from the same meter and rhythm and has the power to sustain itself as a poignant epitaph for some sad soul. The pallavi ranks up there with "veedu varai uRavu", "oru kOppayilE", and "varavu ettanA" for packing the wisdom of a kuraL or a poetic biography in four simple lines.
TMS navigates the square corners of these lines with indelible emotion and melodic ease. KVM as usual becomes the silent letter in a celebrated word; you don't hear him but you feel his presence.
The movie had nadigar thilagam in melodramatic fabric spun by the Krishnan Panju mills.
