Song of the Day: kallai mattum from Dasavatharam.

Listen

- Finally, Dasavatharam songs are out!

- From listening to the album twice till now, I think this will probably go down as the worst album for a film with such hype from Kamalhasan. Even Aalavandhan's music now seems marginally better.

Why Himesh Reshamaiya? Why such pathetic singing (Vinith) for a song that endlessly sings Kamal's praise (ulaga naayaganE)? Can there be a lamer melody than Mukunda Mukunda (sung by Sadhana Sargam)? Will Oh Oh Sanam go down as one of the worst Kamal has sung?

Strictly my opinion. I am sure people who are tuned into Himesh's music will appreciate better. I am sure if the songs are picturized well, they will get some traction, like the SOTD sung by Hariharan.

This song is apparently the introduction song where Kamal (Rangarajan?) is tied to the Vishnu statue and is taken on a procession and hurled into the ocean. Apparently, the procession to the ocean itself is filmed brilliantly, right from the start where Raja Raja Chozhan orders that Kamal be executed. The scene begins with sharp hooks piercing Kamal's body as he is lifted and tied to the statue, Braveheart style. As the procession moves forward through each village, different kinds of people come up (including some adivasis) and pelt stones at Kamal. Once Kamal sinks in the ocean with the statue, the camera then zooms in and the "genes" flow and the camera zooms out into the "genetic research lab" where present-day Kamal works as a research scientist.

How do I know all of this? Insider info :)

Here's hoping that the movie will be better than the album!
