This SOTD comes to you from an MSV anecdote recalled by MSV himself to Sriram Lakshman (an occasional dhooL contributor). When MSV was rehearsing this composition with his crew, G.Ramanathan happened to be present and asked MSV about the singer he had in mind for this. Upon hearing that TRM was to be the singer, GR was outraged and berated MSV for inappropriately matching TRM with a song in such a low register. MSV apologetically responded that he was going to try it. Time goes on...the movie and soundtrack are going great guns to raves from the public and critics. One day MSV gets a letter from GR stating that he truly admired the song and that MSV had achieved something extraordinary by using TRM in a way that TRM himself wouldn't've thought possible.
Here then is the classic that made the great GR change his mind. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
