Song: kaakkai chiraginile
Film: Purusha Latchanam
Singers: SPB, Chitra
MD: Deva
Lyricist: Vaali?
I had meant to do a series on Deva’s overlooked songs, but the task of finding the songs, converting them, and getting all the information outweighed the will. So in my preferred mode of low maintenance and disorganization some of these songs of Deva will come at you from time to time. As always with obscure stuff do pitch in with any information.
Until the movie, Vaali, Deva’s music had hummable tunes and fresh (for TFM) rhythm arrangements. And as long as Deva stuck with SPB and Hariharan for male vocals, his day was saved. With Chitra thrown in as an added treat, today’s SOTD, with its brisk pace, commendable orchestration, and involved singing used to be the norm for a pop tune not too long ago. Hope this rubs your ears the right way.
- Deva had mentioned in an interview that he worked a lot on this song and expected this to become a hit, but the song with a hundred amman names became a big hit instead.
