I had long felt this was either an MSV song for the heavy bongos usage or a V. Kumar one for the hyper shifting short phrased saranam lines. I was quite surprised to find IR did the music for this. With this knowledge I listened again to see where IR shows up and he does around the two-minute mark with the ascending violin and the indulging flute. Some hesitant tremors of synthesizers circa 1978 and accompanying guitar are also noticeable. Even the tabla doesn’t seem distinctly IR. Even the orchestration is marginalized to the voices that are the center piece of this song. I guess IR was still busy shedding the skin of all his influences back then.

The refrain of “ennennavO un aasaigaL” conveys the loaded insinuations that the lyricist sought. A nice touch there. Overall this is a telling composition of IR’s early transitional period. Did I mention, I like the song beyond an educational curiosity? I trust you will too. With Jeyachandran’s earnest affection and Janaki’s non-tremolo rendition what’s not to like?
