During their recent appearance together on "Coffee with Anu", SPB took time to point out that many songs from GA's 165-strong career as an MD have been unjustly ascribed to his more famous older brother. SPB elaborated that GA and IR had such distinct styles in composition, yet the world has never given GA his due as an MD. GA brushed aside this disappointment as, "avarukku nalla pEru vaangi kuduththathaa ninaichikkuvOm". Here in Dhool we aim to enshrine the underappreciated, so here goes another in that service. While Saravanan has been shedding light on lesser known GA tunes, I thought of celebrating this not-necessarily-unknown but rather an estranged one from many memories.
The song flows like the breeze sweeping the meadow where the lovers play hide and seek. The song sequence is cleverly intercut with Bagyaraj heading to the lover's summit after believing that Sumathi was flirting with him when in fact the message about the clandestine meeting was meant for Sudhakar, yes, that Sudhakar! (With this love triangle, take your pick of the lesser evil, folks!). Upon reaching the spot and realizing his mistaken assumption, Bagyaraj stares on as the film symbolically drains him of color and turns black and white, as if the color had been drained out of his life. That was a charming, bittersweet scene. The song though is far from bitter.
