Song of the Day: sollaadha raagangaL from mahanadhi.

Listen
- Sung by S.P.B, S.Janaki. Music by Ilayaraja.
- This is a melodious duet that never got featured in the film. The tune appears in the BGM during a brief romantic scene between Kamal and Sukanya.
- When I was listening to the song, I kept wondering why the song was kept out.
On one hand, a dream song between Kamal and Sukanya when he is in jain would really spoil the flow of the film. So, the song wouldn't fit in. Further, the song's heavy beats would have made it too loud and jarring for such a sequence. The song starts off slow but the beats, damn they are annoying to me.
On the other hand, Mahanadhi takes its own sweet time to set up the heavy sequences of Kamal in prison. Surely, at the editing table, Kamal would have thought about cutting "pEigaLai nambaadhE" which doesn't add any substance to the film. Other sequences in the film could have been trimmed (prison fight scenes, thalaivaasal vijay cameo etc). So, Kamal could have kept this song in the movie if the length of the movie was an issue.
