Song of the Day: Beautiful Marvelous Excellent from manam oru kurangu.

'Beautiful--marvelous'(SG-LRE) is from Sashti Films' Manam Oru Kurangu- 1967. It was a great adaptation of the classic My fair Lady, which itself was adapted from Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Music by D.B.Ramachandran.
DBR (1928- 1986) was a great, but unassuming genius. He was G.Ramanathan's assistant till GR's untimely death. He was said to be the brilliant mainstay of GR's orchestra. Later he assisted the great S.Balachandar--in fact the bgm of SB's thriller Bommai- 1964 was entirely by DBR.
DBR also had a great voice- I have been spellbound each time I listened to the lovely duet 'Naan yen varavendum' (Poonkothai- 1953), sung by DBR & Jikki.
Unfortunately DBR was not pushy, nor did he know the cunning ways of the filmworld. He did compose music for a few films independently--Karpooram- 1967, Manam Oru Kurangu- 1967 & Magizhampoo- 1969.
DBR has composed several devotional albums, mostly with seergazhi Govindarajan. You must have definitely heard his 'Vinayagane vinai theerpavane' and ' Nee allal deivam illai'
Coming to the film MOK, it was a great comedy, produced by VT Arasu, scripted by Cho, and starred besides Cho,- Muthuraman & KR Vijaya. TMS's Manam Oru Kurangu title song is a wonderful number.
