Song of the Day: Athiradi from Sivaji.
- There is this new movie called Sivaji; releasing next month. You might have probably heard about it. Anyway, its music is out.
There are scores of people who have reviewed the album by A.R.Rahman. Here are Ferrari's and Rediff's.
I heard the songs over the past two days, and I haven't been bowled over by the album. I think Shankar and Rahman have played it safe. Except for the SOTD, most of the other songs sound like typical Rajini songs.
I liked Balleilakka (SPB,Raihanah, Benny) , Vaaji Vaaji (Hariharan, Madhushree) and the SOTD, sung by Rahman himself and Sayanora. I think these three would be the chartbusters as well. Athiradi hooked me with its beats and the guitar.
I didn't care for the token melodious number, Sahara pookkaL (Vijay Yesudas) and another version of the same song sung by Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam.
"oru koodai sunlight, oru koodai moonlight" made me laugh wondering how this would be picturized on Rajini. The funny wigs that you see in the stills that Rajini wears may be for this song. I am sure there will be enough people who would say "Rajini embuttu youth-aa irukkaaru paaru" :)
Apart from the album itself, the reaction to its release and the euphoria over its sales have been quite interesting. I wonder how many such stories (about shops in Mount road selling thousands in the first few hours) were planted, as if to prove a point that the leaked songs on the net doesn't hurt its sales.
