Song of the Day: Sangeetha sahitya from Swathi kiraNam.
- MS writes:
Swati Kiranam - on of the last films of Shri K. V. Mahadevan had wonderful classical songs. Two songs stood out in this film :
(1) Sangeeta sahitya - S.P.B - set in raga karaharapriya
(2) anati neeyara - Vani Jairam - set in raga amrutavarshini
The first one is a beautiful devotional with brigas characteristic of Mahadevan's classical compositions. The second one was a breathtaking (literally) classical stunner from him which really needed a truly well trained like singer like Vani to do justice.
===================
In the summer of 2000, I met Raja Govindarajan (Kansas Raja) - a frequent visitor of tfmpage befriended over the net and a very good singer. Meeting him changed my attitude and perception of singing songs completely. I understood the percent importance of brighas, Sangathis and expressiveness. He has been very busy and popular in the music circuit of USA touring with some of the well known musicians like Kishmu, Anithakrishna, Harinikesh and more. He has the distinction of having been urged by SPB to sing SPB's vintage number - "ee divilO virisina". Has shared stage with major stars like Anuradha Shriram and Harini.
Today we present you a freewheeling - shruthi accompanied - version of Sangeeta Sahitya samalankrute which he had sung when BB and family visited him at Kansas. Enjoy his gambeeram filled rich baritone voice bringing out the beauty of the original composition.
He has been featured once earlier in the song - vaNNa thamiz pENNE - tuned by Srikanth and Written by BB: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/343.html
