SOTD: "aathula meen pidichu" from "Aattukkaara Alamelu"
Lyrics: Ma.ra? (Who is Ma.ra? SaravananukkE veLichcham, I had thought Kannadhaasan wrote most of Devar Production songs)
A precocious villager thanks the Lord for her blessings and delights in the simple joy of fishing in her village. The lyricist dutifully includes the requisite Marudhamalai reference to Devar Productions' satisfaction. While IR sourced many influences in his composition, S-G hitch their tune to the central rhythm of thamukku, a lead flute, accompanied by beaded shakers, strings, and tabla for a simple but tasty delight.
The song goes down smooth and easy without any pretentious choruses in inane languages or discordant interludes; actually, it seems very simple, but a look at current themmAngus will have you realize how rare it is to get a simple song like this these days.
aathaa Suseela thayavila agrahaarathila aadippaathu, kaNNeerula veLakkEthi, aathula meenpidichaachu.
