Song of the Day: Four Duets.

Today, we feature four duets sung by Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar. Though duets by this duo are primarily known for their peppy tunes, like Jaane Jaan from Jawani Diwani or Ek Mein Aur Ek from Khel Khel Mein or O Meri Soni from Yaadon Ki Baraat, they have sung quite a few enchanting slightly slower paced songs also. One such song was Saara Pyar Tumhara from Anand Ashram that we featured a few months ago. Though some may argue that Asha's voice is not in the class of her great sister, these songs do stand well on their own merit. Hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do in presenting them to you.

Song: Ye Raatein Ye Mausam Nadi Ka Kinara

Actors: Kishore Kumar and Nutan
Music Director: Ravi.

Song: Tandi Hawa Ye Chandni Suhani

Music Director: Kishore Kumar.

The first two songs feature Kishore Kumar himself in his avatar as a hero. His heroines being the beautiful Nutan and the bewitching Madhubala. The videos of these songs are available on YouTube and when watching these songs, you would realize that Kishore Kumar the actor is quite a few rungs below that of Kishore Kumar the singer. In fact, Tandi Hawa is composed by Kishore da himself. Both these songs have a mesmerizing quality about them and both Asha and Kishore have sung beautifully (though in Tandi Hawa, Asha's contribution is just the humming at the beginning). I wonder whether these songs are songs where one could waltz. Maybe one of you who knows about dance can let us know.

Once Kishore Kumar came to the realization that his future and legacy lay in playback singing, I believe and people can correct me on this if I am wrong, the hero his voice was first channeled through was Dev Anand. Dev Anand, the evergreen hero, is still going strong. He plays the suave urban type in movies, a la Gregory Peck (with whom he was likened to by many people). I liked his dress sense, particularly after watching, green trouser and orange shirt wearing heroes. The songs in his movies were uniformly excellent, and I am not ashamed to say that I am a fan of his and his movies and his songs. Today we feature two such songs. The first song features him with Nutan, while the second song pairs him with his wife Kalpana Kartik.

Song: Chod Do Aanchal Zamana
