Follow Through - Roopa, Tammy Thomas, Olympics Torch

Followthroughs 1 Comment

This section will feature follow-ups on articles written earlier in the week.

First off, I wrote about Super Star Global and Roopa, the phenomenal singer who was the pick of the show. The grand finale of the competition happened over the weekend and Roopa Revathi predictably won the competition. You can watch her final performance and the announcement of the results. Vani Jayaram was invited to announce the winner and she made a freudian slip when she dubbed the show “Super Singer Global” instead!

In Idea Star Singer, two contestants, Hesham and Amrutha are eliminated. Arun Gopan, whose singing was below par for the most part, made it to the top four, with Najim, Tushar and Durga. The elimination show rivaled the India mega serials with people crying and getting emotional. Usha Uthup flooded the auditorium with her tears!

The Bearded Athelete Tammy Thomas was found guilty of perjury in her case. She was found lying about her use of steroids. I guess the jury must have seen this before and after photo of hers. Is Barry Bonds next?

Boycott the Olympics? The Olympics torch is making its rounds around the world (what a waste of time and money!). The protesters disrupted the run in London yesterday and in Paris today. The torch went out several times, and police officers had to put it onto a bus to try to protect it. In other news, Walmart recalled 4 million torches made in China.

I wrote an article on my friend Arun Vaidyanathan’s new film, Achamundu Achamundu. Sadly, on that day, Arun was flying back to India for an emergency and a few days later, his father passed away in Chennai.
