Song of the Day: vaanam tharaiyil from unnudan.
Vaanam tharaiyil--from unnudan. Sung by Hariharan & unknown female singer; MD: Deva.
AFAIK one of Deva's best original compositions. I always regard Deva fondly for the hummable sandhams he created in his pre-Vaali days. The whole tune tastefully scales up and down to a satisfying sandham. The orchestration follows the tune's lead and the lyrics were actually hummable in public. This one is certainly a singer's song. The following sequence is arresting:
vizhigalil veesiya iLaiyakodi
pala vibaththukkaL unnaal nErndhadhadi
adi orE muRai
oru paarvai paar ulagam suzhalum maRubadi
Hariharan, who dropped the ball often for ARR, time and again came up big for Deva and Vidyasagar somehow. This one ranks up there with the best of his efforts; easily his best semi-classical number.
- Unnudan was a film starring Murali and Kausalya. It came right after the hit film 'kaalamellaam kaadhal vaazhga' and had the same formula: Murali and Kausalya didn't convey their love for each other till the climax. The film just drags on and on.

Movie details were added by bb. I've never seen the film. I follow soundtracks not movies and this is especially true of post-90s movies.

Among my favorite Hariharan songs!
Somehow I tend to bunch this one mentally with 'irubathu kOdi nilavugaL' from thuLLatha manamum thuLLum- another fav. song from the same period.
