Song: paruvam kanindhu
Film: Yaro Ezhudhiya Kavidhai
Singers: KJY, Vani Jeyaram
MD: Anandha Krishnan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu?

When I first heard this song I was a bit torn. I felt the electronic prelude was jarring with the tune being uneven and amateurish. But as the song progressed it got better and better. Moreover, the orchestration (with decent flute and tabla usage) and tune were utterly unusual like the way a dubbed song throws you with unsuspected turns. The pacing was like a guessing game the composer played with my eager ears, with sudden sprints and slow climbs. Maybe the couple were chasing each other up and down sand dunes in the movie. No matter, the singing pair of KJY and Vani, the late 70s power duo, relive their glory briefly in this 80s duet. The lyricist, for his part, makes winning use of the movie title with the refrain: ivaL yaarO ezhudhiya kavidhai, manappaadam seidhEn varigaLai.

Add to all this, an unknown composer, Anandha Krishnan, and the song is ripe for DhooL status don't you agree?

Good one, Udhaya. MD is the famous Ananda Shankar, the poineer fusion musician, son of dancer Udhay Shankar, nephew of Pandit Ravi Shankar...

yaarO ezhudhiya kavithai was Sridhar's celluloid adaptation of Vaasanti's jananam. Sivakumar, Jayashri and Rajesh played the lead roles.

I remember the song, Udhaya. THANKS.

Yeah, Fusion music albums by ANADA SHAKNAR. Good looking man with glasses and curly hair.
Just last week I was going through my old musical cassettes …From Udhirippookkal, Moodupani - IR, TEMPLE BELLS-Chitti Babu, Jugalbandi(Sarod,Sitar) etc..to INDIA 2000-DR.L.S.

Early 90s, One day I gave a car ride to an American classmate of mine at City University, Bellevue, WA. I was playing Pancha nadai Pallavi by L.Shankar in the car. He got excited and told me that he was a big fan of L. Shankar & Ananda Shankar and introduced me to John McLaughlin’s SHAKI BAND musicals etc.. Nostalgia.. :)

Saravanan,

Thanks for the corrections and remarks on the MD's historic significance. I'm happier now with the song's choice.

Vinatha,
I used to have a L.Shankar CD where he played classical raagams in a double-violin (literally fusion). A treasure that was ceremoniously looted by some frenemy. Shakthi was fun indeed.

Anand Shankar composed the DD's famous "aavo chalen" sung by VJ?

Yeah, frenemies..
நினைவா ஒழுங்கா திரும்பி தரமாட்டாங்க... Udhaya.

DOUBLE VIOLIN is his own invention. :)

Last week I was extremely happy. I poked the boxes in the garage and got the MS-DOS 5 Dave Brubeck's TAKE FIVE Quartet..commemorative edition. :)

All these yrs, I was thinking we lost it along with several other audio collections during 90's குடித்தனம் shifting.

Shakti is back with Mandolin U. Shrinivas, Vikku's son, Shivkumar sharma, etc.. They have vocalist ஷங்கர் மஹாதேவன் TOO.

I love to see S.P.B and Guitar Prasanna for a jam with SHAKTI soon. :)

நீ எங்கே என் நினைவுகள் அங்கே....என்னோடு பாட்டுபாடுங்கள் - நலங்கு மாவு-ஹமாம் நிகழ்ச்சி ... S.P. பாலா SINGS WITH AMAZING BHAVAM NOW.

OISG,

thiruvizhaavil tholaindha kuzhandhai--adadaa! what an original analogy! I'll have to replace my 'nUlarundha pattam' usage (which is almost a cliche) with this one.

udhaya :)

Since listeneing the song in the afternoon i was trying desparately to get the "other song" and finally managed ...the charanam reminds "vannam indha vanjiyin vannam" from Premapasam(Another Raja Radha saga remade by Balaji).the Tamil version MD was GA but i believe the kannada original(?) was by Rajan-Nagendra.

Anand Shankar's opeara style was lifted in the choreography of "poovE sempoovE".

Udhaya,

Many places the song reminded the line aasai enbadhu amudham adhil aadi varuvadhu kumudham of VB's Idho en kaadhalin kannmani(SVV). Perhaps Anand Shankar got inspired from a Sridhar's earlier film song...anyway pleasant to listen.

He also appears behind Chuni goswami in Mile sur mera tumhara, after the metro pulls into rabindra sadan Stn, followed by Tejeshwar Singh, Arunlal and PK Banerjee [who is arranging his "hair" on a head that has seen better days  ]
