Shankar Ram Athreya:

What an absorbing and wonderfully executed play!. In particular I liked the multi threaded nature of it, what with Fermat providing frequent comic relief, which was still very much related to the encore. The scenes were quite "tight" and the continuity was very well maintained, the asynchronous, multi threaded feature not withstanding.
Of course, it comes as no surprise, that the play should have been a sucess at all, given the directorial and other talents that went into it. As Balaji wishes, maybe this be the harbinger of many more such serious plays, esp the ones based on semi fictional explorations of the human sides and interactions of scientific minds.

Finally Balaji, how faithful were you to Ira Hauptman's script?... over and above the cosmetic modifications that the translation necessitated.

Once again a Great Job!!

Ashwin Mahalingam:

First, I really enjoyed the play - I unfortunately had to leave about 3/4th into the play since my friend had another commitment and I had to drop her off (which is why I didnt come down and talk to you at the end of the play) - its unfortunate that it started late, but from what I saw - it was excellent. I read 'Man who knew infinity' a few months back and I really really enjoyed the play.

Plus:
1. The sets were awesome
2. I thought the cast did a really good job with the acting and their dialogues - my favorite was Fermat :-) He really rocked! The tamizh interspersed with french was hilarious!
3. I noticed something that I thought was really interesting - Ramanujan speaks in Iyer thamizh while the Brits speak in senthamizh - is that the adaptation of the Brits speaking proper English and Ramanujan speaking Indian English in the english version? I thought this was a nice touch.
4. Overall I thought the play was very engaging, did not drag and had a very nice mix of humour, drama and science.

Things that could be done better
1. Starting on time - I know this probably wasnt your fault, and I know all these things work in IST, but the start was delayed by over an hour, and I'm sure there were other people who were not able to stay till the finish
2. The microphones - especially for Fermat - didnt work too well
3. I thought it took way too much time between scenes to take and remove props

Hope this helps - thanks for letting me know about this and CONGRATULATIONS for a FANTASTIC job!

Sriram Sellappa:

The depiction of the contrast in Ramanujam's and Hardy's thought process was very well characterized.
The portrayal of Ramanujam's inner thoughts, through dialogues with amman was very realistic and very well personified.
The french lingo added an authentic flavor to the semi fictional play.
The occasional tinge of humor was very enjoyable, and decorous.
The performance of all the cast members, especially Ramanujam's, was excellent.

One minor drawback was that a few segments of the play were short, and was interrupting the flow of the play.

Overall the play was excellent, and superb.

Arun Balasubramaniam:

The play was great. I wasn't sure what to expect given the abstract nature of the topic but came away very impressed with the overall delivery. Keep up the good work!

Srinivasan Venkatachary:

We thoroughly enjoyed the play. Great job adapting, translating and directing, Balaji. Dialogues flowed well.

Srikanth did a great job of portraying the ever-apologetic typical Indian character combined with math genius part.

Fermat’s performance of the n-th degree J. Amman meeting Fermat was pretty cool. The initial entrance of Amman into the scene was blocked by the mike stand for some section of the audience, so for sometime I thought it was asariri.

The split stage setting was quite good. Ramki’s London policekarar vesham was good..though a little more props for police station would have been good given it was the opening, to give the feel. Professor Billington was a powerful character, it was done quite well.

The same blanket was handed over again when Srikanth asks for “kulirradhu, innoru porvai irundha nanna irukum”.

This was noticeable, especially since the previous scene has a nice touch with Amman showing how to tuck it in etc and draws attention to the porvai. Rajiv did wonderfully well. The monologues were delivered well, without losing audience’ interest.

The final emotional scenes and Hardy’s frustration with Ramanujam’s refusal/inability to focus on proving stuff came out quite well.

Srikanth’s acting in the scene where he says “log logn yosichudhan vandhudhu” and the intonation when he asks in a sort of half afraid voice “aen, adhu correct thaney” was awesome.

Overall, thanks for an awesome production. It was of great quality, and the time and effort all of you put into it really showed.

Rajeswari Vellore:

It was a pleasant surprise. When I came to watch the drama Ennangal on my brothers insistence, I didn't expect such a laudable effort. It was totally worth the time. At the end when the chief guest said that it had all been prepared in only a month time, it was unbelievable.

Its a wonderful attempt to get copyright of such valuable writings and get them translated and enacted. In all these years, whether in India or here, I have not watched any Tamil drama other than S.Ve. Shekhar or Crazy Mohan (can't bear the cable TV so called dramas excepting a few like Penn by Suhasini). This was very refreshing.

Presenting a rather serious life of a genius with a tinge of humor made it very interesting. Looking forward to see such efforts in the future ! Well done !

Mani Ram:

First thing that struck me was the intent to provide a high quality play. This is first and foremost - when present the rest will automatically follow. You had that and it was evident in all scenes.

The translation was truthful to the original. Hats Off!! This is not easy and you accomplished with a breeze.

Next kudos is to casting. The actors/actress fit the role perfectly. Again the credit goes to you in this regard.

Of course what good is a play with a good script and without good acting? The actors finished the final mile without a hitch. They were according to me - flawless. I could not pick on any dialogue mishap at all.

And you pulled this all off in just four weekends? That is unbelievable. Great job and kudos to the entire team.

It is very unfortunate that there were only a handful of people watching the show. Hey! I think the people who did not come to the show missed out on a quality play. How unfortunate!

I sincerely think that the last couple of years is the Golden era of Tamil drama in Bay Area with so many enthusiasts staging a variety of plays and I hope this trend continues.

We can be proud that Tamil Plays are living and healthier in Bay Area than in Tamil Nadu.

Senthil Kumar:

Congratulations on a very well executed play! Two things made the play very absorbing - the commedy track involving Fermat and the short duration of each scene.

Keeping the scenes short and crisp set a nice pace for the whole play.

The way Fermat flirts with Amman was very humorous too.

The effort to keep the set, props and furniture resemble the events' time period is commendable. On the negative side, the play started almost an hour late. I guess this is a feedback more for the organizers than for ur team. It would be interesting if you can share with us which parts of the play was directly adapted and which parts were added by you.
